JLC International is a global distributor of various types of equipment for measurement, including turbine flowmeters. The Gx turbine flow meter is suitable for the measurement of dry gases (inert and flammable), and is designed to operate at line pressures down to 0.01 bar (0.2 psi). It is comprised of one cartridge assembly, fitted inside a stainless steel body and locked in place with a circlip and a magnetic pick-up fitted.

The Gx gas turbine flow meter comes in a range of styles:

  • Threaded
  • Flanged
  • Wafer (designed for between flange installations)

The rotor – fitted with low inertia, precision bearings – is turned by the kinetic energy of the flowing gas at an angular velocity, which in the linear range of the flowmeter, is proportional to the mean axial velocity of the gas. The rotor blades sweep out the full bore of the meter, except for a small tip clearance space. As the blade tips pass the magnetic pick up, they initiate a pulse. Flow rate is determined by the frequency of the pulses and totalized flow is obtained by summing them.

The LX range of bi-directional turbine flowmeters meets the demand of most liquid measurement applications. They are basically comprised of three-component assemblies fitted inside a stainless steel body and locked in place with a circlip and a magnetic pick-up fitted.

The meters are available in different connections, such as:

  • Threaded
  • Flanged
  • Wafer (designed for between flange installations)
  • Tri-Clamp (for dairy, brewery, pharmaceutical and food processing industries)

The rotor and shaft assembly, which is mounted between journal bearings inside the two rotor shaft support assemblies, is turned by the kinetic energy of the flowing fluid at an angular velocity, which in the linear range of the turbine flow meter is proportional to the mean axial velocity of the fluid.

For temperatures in excess of 350 °C (662 °F) the liquid turbine flowmeters will be fitted with a high temperature pick-up.

For gas turbine flowmeters, the temperature is restricted by the bearings and should not exceed more than 180 °C (356 °F).

It is strongly recommended to use inline strainers for meter protection. With new pipe work systems, it is good practice to fit temporary strainers, which can be removed after commissioning. The degree of filtration required depends on the size of the flowmeter.

The pipe before the meter should be at least equivalent to 10d, in length (where d = nominal bore of flowmeter), and a length of similar piping equal to 5d should be installed downstream of the flowmeter, with no control valves, pipe bends, intersections or intrusions into straight lengths. Where the diameter of the flowmeter is less than that of the existing pipe work, it is recommended that the upstream and downstream sections terminate with concentric reducers.
