Air Velocity Transmitters

The hot film anemometer (HFA) is made of a thin, structured, metallic resistive film (“heater”) which is deposited onto a substrate. In the operating state of the HFA the electrical power heats the heater up to a certain temperature. An air-flow of ambient temperature cools the heater down until equilibrium between the electrical Joule heat and the thermal heat loss is reached.

The higher the velocity the higher the heat loss from the heater. The temperature difference depends further on the ambient temperature, which can change. Therefore the air temperature is measured with an additional temperature sensor which is often part of a bridge circuit in order to compensate changes in the ambient temperature automatically.

The type of air velocity transmitters based on this measuring principle are called Constant-Temperature-Anemometer (CTA).

The air velocity transmitters manufactured by E+E Elektronik are of the CTA type and are available in compact form, duct and wall mount and whit remote probe.

The EE671 is a compact air velocity probe for HVAC applications. The built-in flow sensing element combines the advantages of state-of-the-art thin-film manufacturing and of the newest transfer molding technology. It operates on the hot-film anemometer principle and ensures high accuracy and reproducibility as well as long-term stability and outstanding resistance to pollutants. EE671 is available with fix installed cable or with plug connection. The measured air velocity up to 20 m/s (4000 ft/min) is available as linear voltage output. The alignment strip on the probe and the matching mounting flange within the scope of supply simplify installation and correct positioning in the air flow. The flange enables the immersion depth to be infinitely variable.

The EE576 is a compact air velocity transmitter designed for measurement of lowest velocity. These transmitters are less sensitive to dust and dirt than conventional hot-wire elements. This is reflected in the excellent reproducibility and proven long-term stability of the measuring results. The factory calibration with a special wind tunnel for lowest velocity ensures optimal precision and maximum sensitivity. The electronics integrated in the probe tube provide a linear analogue voltage signal.

The EE65 air velocity transmitters are ideal for accurate ventilation control applications and are many times combined with inline dewpoint transmitters. They are operating on the innovative hot film anemometer principle. The thin film sensor guarantees very good accuracy at low air velocity, which is not possible for conventional anemometers with commercial temperature sensors or NTC-bead thermistors. Moreover, the sensor is much more insensitive to dust and dirt than all other anemometer principles. This means high reliability and low maintenance costs. EE65 series are available with current or voltage output, the measuring range and the response time can be selected with jumpers by the user. Low angular dependence enables easy, cost-effective installation. An integrated LC display and a version with remote sensing probe are available.
